Camp Fernwood staff
come from many different backgrounds, cultures, and countries. Each
counselor is a unique individual who adds something to the Fernwood
community. Being a counselor at Fernwood is about giving of yourself
and letting others give to you. The more you put into it, the more you
get out of it.
At Fernwood, you will form friendships with campers and counselors that
will last a lifetime. You will grow and realize how important relationships
within a community are, and you will have fun, you will laugh, and you
will be brought back to your childhood days. You will also realize the
significance of being a good role model, of taking responsibility, and
of leading by example. Being a Fernwood staff member is one of the most
rewarding experiences you will ever have.
"So why do I come back ... because I can ... and because Fernwood girls are special and have taught me the most important lessons in life:
To love not a little, but with all my heart. To cry, to laugh, to think, to sing, and to always have time for everyone. To listen not only with my ears, but also with my heart. To hear the song of a loon, the music of the rain, and to see the beauty in a lightning storm.
Fernwood is a special place, and I hope that each of you finds as much joy here as I have." - Shelley King
"All summer long, I sat on the docks, or at Moosehead Lake, or walked down the bunk line and just watched the clouds. I learned so much... I learned to trust myself... I learned that there are certain times when there is no reason to fear an opportunity.
I am sure that when I get home and have a little time to sit alone, or when I am challenged by new stresses, I will remember the confidence that this place has instilled in me. .... I am just in awe for the moment." - Sara Ecker
"I get to introduce them to something
that they can do for the rest of their lives and they just love it.
The smiles on their faces make every second worthwhile. You are bringing
absolute joy to these kids. It can't really be called a job. I go to
play every day. I'll be sad to see them go, but I know that I've done
something good for them and that makes it all the worthwhile."
