Leadership opportunities abound at Fernwood, and through all a child’s time with us she will be offered ways to make meaningful contributions. As the oldest campers, our Senior girls (9th graders) are the role models of our community. As a group, they plan various camp-wide activities and programs throughout the summer, and help to demonstrate good judgment, inclusiveness, cooperation and good sportsmanship.
Girls in the older half of camp are encouraged to take part in early season elections for positions the leadership positions of songleader or editor of our “Echoes” yearbook. Our Green and White team captains and co-captains are elected from our Senior age group, and are responsible for leading and encouraging their spirited teams throughout the summer.

A gathering called Sunday Services offers an opportunity each week for a group of older campers to practice speaking publicly on an assigned topic in front of our community of over 350 people. Girls are encouraged to tell of an experience, write a poem, or share their thoughts. Topics may include – leadership, friendship, perseverance, loss, taking a chance, and more.
